A place created to help you in your journey of raising bilingual children.

This site has been designed for teachers and parents who are interested in developing their children’s language abilities. My name is Judy Thompson and I am a teacher and parent of bilingual children and I am so passionate about nurturing children’s languages that I wrote a book about it!

Raising bilingual children, whether you are

Is a tough task. Whether you like it or not personal preferences, language prestige and societal bias will be involved. Considerations around the languages used at home, within friendship groups, as well as the wider family circle will be important as will be the attitudes towards and provisions for language learning and multilingualism in general at school and the wider community.

Raising bilingual children is especially difficult whilst living amidst a more widely-spoken, powerful language such as English in the west or global north.

This website is designed to help you navigate these challenges by raising awareness of the issues surrounding languages and their place in society. It will help you to navigate the hurdles and figure out the best ways to acknowledge, value and support the use and learning of the languages for the children in your care.
